TFP - Time for Pictures

TFP – Time for Pictures

When I take portrait photos, I usually work according to the "Time For Pictures" principle (formerly: Time For Prints).

What does TFP mean?

In short: The photographer donates their services, the model donates their time. This means in detail:

  • No one receives a fee; both work for free.

  • Costs incurred during the shoot (e.g., purchase of props or rental costs) are discussed in advance and split 50:50.

  • Both parties can use the photos (which have been mutually approved) on the same legal basis.

What may the images be used for?

Unless otherwise expressly agreed upon:

  • Commercial use is not permitted for either party.

  • Distribution in pornographic or otherwise dubious media is strictly prohibited.

  • Use on social media or on their own website for self-promotion is permitted for both parties.

  • The model may use the images for portfolios.

  • The photographer may use the images to participate in photography competitions.

  • The photographer may display the images in exhibitions.

  • The photographer may display the images in print publications (magazines, books).

  • Agreed usage rights are valid for an unlimited period of time and geographical area.

  • Copyright remains with the photographer.

  • In every publication, the photographer and model (only if requested by the model) must be credited, and their websites and, if applicable, social media accounts must be linked.

How does it work?

  • I save all photos in an Adobe Lightroom cloud for backup.

  • After the shoot, I review the images and perform basic editing (lighting, colors, cropping, simple retouching).

  • I then make my selection available to the model via a cloud link on the Adobe Lightroom cloud.

  • The model only needs a browser to view them.

  • If requested, I can also secure access with a password. In this case, the model needs a (free) Adobe account.

  • Please note: this pre-selection has not (yet) been finalized and is used solely for determining further editing. Pre-selection images may not be published.

  • The model then decides how the images are handled:

    • Images that may be shown publicly will be finalized by me.

    • Images that the model only intends to use privately will be made available for download. I will not edit them further.

    • Images that the model does not like will be deleted.

  • I use Lightroom's AI features when editing images.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many images do I get as a model?

  • I guarantee that you will receive at least ten pre-screened images (basically edited). Usually, there are between 50 and 100 images.

  • I would like you to approve at least five of the pre-screened images for me to publish – more is welcome ;-).

Will I receive RAW images?

No.

Am I allowed to edit the images myself (afterward)?

  • For your own personal use, yes, but you may not publish images you have altered. However, we can discuss what edits you would like, and if we agree, I will be happy to do them for you free of charge.

  • This also means that social media filters and presets may not be applied to the images.

When can the photographer/model publish the images?

If both parties have expressly approved the images – not beforehand.

What about GDPR?

  • If you have received this text and come to the shoot, I will assume that you have given your necessary consent according to Article 6 GDPR (processing of personal data).

  • According to Article 17 GDPR (request for erasure), you can withdraw your consent at any time and/or prohibit the use and storage of your images.

What if I disagree with certain points?

  • If you find certain points odd – let's talk. Maybe it's just a vagueness. Perhaps we can come to an alternative agreement that works for both of us.

  • If you have received this text and come to the shoot, I will assume that you agree to the regulations here.
