Landscape photography – learning to see nature

There are two reasons to bring a camera while hiking. If you're lucky, you'll bring home some great photos. If not, at least you've seen more. It's almost always worth the effort.

For me, landscape photography is an exercise in attentiveness. With the camera in hand and the intention to take a photo, my perspective changes: Suddenly, I notice the light streaking through the trees, and fog becomes a compositional element.

Those who engage in landscape photography see things differently. Clouds aren't distracting, but rather interesting. The light changes throughout the day. The same place has completely different colors in the evening, during the day, or in the morning.

I'm not interested in postcard perspectives. I'm more interested in the views and perspectives I would have missed without a camera .
